Nepal is the country that adopted Buddhism. Even though this is where Buddhism originates, 81% of the Nepalese people practice Hinduism. Nepal has a very rich geography, where 8 of the largest mountains are present, including the largest Mount Everest which is called Sagarmatha. The fertile and humid south is heavily urbanized there. Nepal had gone into a Civil War that lasted a decade which abolished the monasteries there and established a federal multiparty representative democratic republic. The word Nepal derives from the word Nepa which refers to the Newar Kingdom, which is their present day Kathmandu Valley.
